The Parable of the Mustard Seed is found
in the gospels of Matthew, Luke and Mark.

Jesus asked his disciples  “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of Heaven?”

Jesus answered his own question by telling them that the Kingdom is like a grain of mustard seed, which is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches so that the birds may make nests in its shade.

The parable of the mustard tree expresses the belief that God’s Kingdom is on earth as well as heaven and that our faith, no matter how small, can grow full and strong. At St.Philip’s we strive for honest searching and mutual support which leads to spiritual growth.  That is why our “promise” is: “If you come here, you will grow.”
